Board Member . . .
Tamara A. Hood has been elected to serve on the TEA Board as the West TN Black Classroom Teacher and has been a member since 1994. She served as MEA Treasurer for 2005-2006 and MEA Secretary for 2003-2004. She teaches special education at Grandview Heights Elementary and has been in the educational field for 18 years. Ms. Hood received a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology + 45 from Arkansas State University. Ms. Hood continued her graduate studies from University of Tennessee at Martin, Trevecca Nazarene College and LeMoyne Owen College. Ms. Hood has served as MEA Central Area Director for 4 years, Board of Directors Liaison to National Teachers Day Committee. Additionally, she has been a delegate to numerous TEA & NEA Representative Assemblies. She has received such honors as the TEA Distinguished Teacher Award in 1997, Educational Image Award from the NAACP in 2000, Regional Trailblazer Award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 2001 and the NAACP President's Award in 2002. In addition, she was appointed to the TEA State Special Schools Committee and is a member of the TEA Human Relations Committee. Recently she has been appointed to serve on the NEA Concerns Committee. Ms. Hood brings knowledge and experience to the MEA Board of Directors. Her educational philosophy is for a school to be a place of learning, a place where educators are allowed to teach, a place where children should respect authority and where the community works together to produce our future citizens.
